Aesop Soho store impression and Boston travel set review

One of my favorite places to visit when I am in New York is SoHo. It almost reminds me of Melrose Ave in LA but with more upscale shops and unique stores.

I like to just walk around and discover new places and things. It could be a restaurant, shops or new skincare products.  So this time, I stumbled upon this super cool store call Aesop. What attracted me to it was the window display ” In The Light Of Summer”. So I walked in.

My very first thought was, “What does the store have?”. All the bottles are displayed on the wood barrel shelving and they play relaxing classical music. I almost feel like I am not in SoHo anymore and the store has this very light herbal scent, but it’s not like when you walk in Aveda with that overpowering smell.
After I talked to the salesperson in the store, I learned Aesop was established in Melbourne in 1987. The brand carries skin, hair and body care products. It uses plant-based and laboratory-made ingredients. All products are designed to address different skin concerns and use very specific natural ingredients as an essential part of the product creation.

When she offered me some water, I was surprised to see a message inside the ceramic cup. lol I love this little touch!

I purchased the travel set “Boston”. It contains seven products from body care, hair care to skin care and I always recommend trying the travel set before investing in full sizes.
Classic Shampoo 1.7 oz
Classic Conditioner 1.7oz
Geranium Leaf Body Cleaner 1.7 oz
Rind Concentrate Body Balm 1.7oz
Fabulous Face Cleanser 0.5 oz
B&Tea Balancing Toner 0.5oz
Primrose Facial Hydrating Cream 0.5 oz
Mouthwash 1.7OZ

After using these products for 2 days , I really enjoy the the following products:
1. Classic Shampoo contain: rosemary , leaf, cedarwoodbrak and juniper berry. This just smells so nice but it’s not too strong and makes my hair feel clean and soft.
2. Geranium leaf Body Cleanser contain: geranium leaf, mandarin rind and bergamot rind. This body cleanser also has a very nice hit of bergamont which is very relaxing.
3. Primrose Facial Hydrating Cream contain: sage leaf, rosemary leaf and lavender stem. This face cream is creamy but not too rich, goes on smoothly and makes my skin feel hydrated. Keep in mind, I was at the hotel when I try these 🙂
Overall I think if you like products that contain essential oil scents, this is a brand you need to try. I would recommend trying their travel set first 🙂

Birchbox SoHo Hual

Happy Holiday everyone, I hope you are having a wonderful Christmas and preparing for an amazing 2015 !!!

When I was in New York few weeks back, I discover the Birchbox store in Soho. So naturally I had to go and check it out, as I am a big fan of Birchbox . I have had a subscription to both the men’s and women’s boxes for over a year now, and let me tell you its like Christmas every month.

The store management  were so nice! Not only did they allow me to film a episode of Mr. Jan All In One in the store, they even have one of their discovery specialist Aimee Simone show me around the store.

Over all the store gave me a very friendly and welcome impression. The store is a stunning white color, very clean and fresh. Organized by category, not by brands, the store is very easy to navigate. There is two floors, the first floor is mostly color and build your own box . The lower level includes men’s products, skincare, body and nail services.

The build your own box is the same concepts of monthly Birchbox but you can pick the items you want to try. Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough  time to build my own box, but  I picked up the items below while we are filming. I always manage a little shopping while working.

Vanity Affair Limited Holiday Box $ 98 value $309 WOW..

I think when ever you are looking to purchase a gift for any events and you don’t know what to buy, this is a great ideas. This box contain the following items

Professional Hair and Makeup Expo Haul

If you did not check out the ‘PHAMExpo” aka Professional Hair and Makeup Expo this year, you have to check it out this year! Why? Many of these shows are industry-only but “PHAMExpo” is open to public! Plus, I was able to get a deal from Groupon. What is Professional hair and Makeup Expo? It is for any one who is interested in the latest trends for hair and makeup. Also you can see a live demo on makeup in many different styles from Beauty to theater makeup. But the most important thing to me was getting good deals on makeup, hair products and tools.  Let me show you what I got!

1. Lime Crime – It’s impossible to miss this brand. You see a lot of people walking around with this super big green and pink shopping bag.  Very smart marketing  strategy.  In 2008, style icon Doe Deere set out to create the cosmetic line of her dream. Lime Crime is synonymous with innovative, vegan, cruelty free makeup for fashion forward girls around the world.

– Palett D’antoineet eye shadow contain 5 eye shadows for $35

– Velvetine Lip Stain liquid lip color transform liquid to matte stain finish $20 each. This is also water poof lip color, I wash 4 time with cleansing oil finally get 90 % off, I still see a little stain on my arm. Colors are Pink Velvet and Red Velvet.

– Liquid Liner $14 each. Colors are Lunar Sea and Blue Milk.

photo 5

–  Eye Shadow Helper – Water proof primer is $20 each. As you can see after rising with water, the eye shadow is still on!!!! I almost feel you shouldn’t use this waterproof daily and only use if you are going to beach or pool party.

2. Bon Bliss – bath & body treats
This is what I call reinvention. I am sure you see body scrub but I bet you’ve never seen a body scrub in candy wrap or truffle packaging. Did I mention this is for one time use? Love love the packing and idea behind the brand. Over 12 delicious scents available.

3. Cailyn O! Wow Brush $28 each
Super cool looking brush can be use with liquid, power and BB cream. The Brush is very dense and offers light to full coverage base on your application. I used it a few times and it feels very soft on the skin but the handle feels a little flimsy. I wonder if they will make one bigger sizes with a stronger handle. I would recommend sticking with the beauty blender for easy use.

4. Z Palette – Love this customizable makeup palette
You can pull your own shadows or blushes all in one palette for easy use. Even if you are not perfessional makeup artist, this little palette will save you time and space on finding your make up.

The Beauty Secrets Of Pompeii

I recently saw the movie Pompeii, and it was pretty darn good. This movie was particularly interesting to me because in 2012 I went on a two week vacation to the Mediterranean which included a trip while in Naples, Italy to the ancient city of Pompeii. Trust me when I say, I am not easily impressed, so as we made our way down to Pompeii I prepared myself for just Pompeii Movie Posteranother tourist trap and a few ancient ruins. When we arrived in Pompeii, I was left speechless by the awesome size of the place … Pompeii was not only fascinating, it was huge! We walked for two or three hours through the ancient ruins, never repeating our steps. Pompeii was nothing less than amazing.

I am not a big scholar of history, and frankly, I am not normally interested in ancient ruins, but Pompeii had me captivated. There was something interesting everywhere you looked. The way the citizens of Pompeii cooked, the difference in housing between the very wealthy and the poor, the way they shopped and traded, and the rather seedy side of Pompeii (brothels, taverns, etc) that would make modern day Las Vegas look like an entry level adult playground. Pompeii was definitely the ultimate place for indulgence.

Steve Jan in the ancient city of Pompeii

Anticipating the release of the movie, I began to think about how the women, and men for that matter, managed beauty. Remember, this was a city obsessed with indulging in every pleasure of the flesh know to mankind, so they had to look beautiful. So, I did some research and put together a brand new video called “Beauty Secrets Of Pompeii”. I hope that you enjoy it.

Clover Store, Long Beach, CA

Clover Store Long Beach, CA Entrance

Every Monday evening for the last several years I play Pinochle … yep, that’s right Pinochle! Most of the time, our card games are held in Long Beach, CA (that’s where most of the card club members live), and so I find myself in that part of Southern California often. Last Monday evening, December 9th, 2013 was no exception, however I desperately needed to pick-up a few Christmas gifts for a dinner that I was attending on Wednesday. I remembered seeing this cute little women’s clothing store on Atlantic Ave., so I decided to stop by and see if they had what I needed.

Clover Store Long Beach JewelryThe store is absolutely adorable and the staff extremely helpful, especially Kristen who helped me find my gifts. They have a large collection of women’s clothing, hand bags, and jewelry at very reasonable prices. In addition, they carry some wonderful candles and interesting perfumes. The store is located at 3803-B Atlantic Ave., Long Beach, California, 90807. You can also contact them at (562) 426-1777. Here are a few pictures from my visit. Please check out their website at
